Jamie Foxx Singing at the CBS George Strait Special

WHAT 'JON & KAYE PLUS 8' TEACHES PEOPLE ABOUT LOVE: (YourTango.com)

  • If you really love someone, you don't let cameras film every second of your relationship. Have Nick and Jessica, Carmen and Dave, and the Hogan family taught us nothing? Unless it's a 22-minute episode of the Family Feud or a brief interview segment on the Today Show about America's greatest hubbies, you do not mix marriage with national TV. Ever.
  • The road to divorce is paved with controlling women. Women who treat their husbands like servants and talk to them like children shouldn't be surprised when said husbands begin to stockpile resentments, recoil from the occasional expression of tenderness, and run around with questionable company in suburban Pennsylvania.
  • Rolling your eyes whenever your wife opens her mouth will not fix the fact that she has no respect for you. It's hard not to make dumb faces when your wife constantly talks to you as though you're stupid. But if Jon and Kate have taught us anything, it's that passive aggressive clowning will not make your spouse suddenly perceive you as intelligent or competent.
  • If you don't want people to think you're having an affair, don't act like you're having an affair (or: the problem with running around with questionable company in suburban Pennsylvania; see point 3). Jon has insisted repeatedly that he and his schoolteacher friend were just "being innocent and hanging out" when the paparazzi snapped them sunbathing and riding around in his car at all hours. Maybe. But it's hard not to wonder: What married man behaves this way who's not having an affair?
  • Multiples are a wonderful way to ruin your relationship. A singleton means you'll be up all night. Twins mean you'll be up around the clock. Triplets (or more) mean you'll be heading to divorce court before you know it. Even Kate admits she knows about the gloomy statistics. "Parents of multiples have like three times the divorce rate," she says in the season 5 premiere of Jon & Kate Plus 8, "And [I thought] we were gonna beat that, but I'm not sure I can say that anymore."
  • Don't rush things. Jon and Kate met when she was only 22 and he was a mere 20. Three years later, they were married and parents to twins Cara and Mady. And less than three years after that, they were expecting the sextuplets. Maybe if they'd slowed things down a bit, Jon and Kate would have been able to develop the skills necessary to nurture their relationship a little more and fight over diaper duty a little less.
  • Don't marry a man who already has a girlfriend or a woman who interrupts you. In a now-classic episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8 entitled "How We Got Here," the heads of the Gosselin family explain how they met. Kate says they were both at a picnic and it was love at first site. Jon then begins to say, "I had a girlfriend at the time," but Kate quickly interrupts, saying, "She was gone the next day." Ah, love. It's so grand that you can't see the millions of red flags waving around you, even when you're the one waving them.

STATES ADOPTING 'NO SMILE' POLICY FOR DRIVER'S LICENSES:

USA Today reported that four states are adopting 'no-smiles' policy for driver's licenses. "Neutral facial expressions" are required at departments of motor vehicles (DMVs) in Arkansas, Indiana, Nevada and Virginia. That means you can't smile, or smile very much. Other states may follow. The serious poses are urged by DMVs that have installed high-tech software that compares a new license photo with others that have already been shot. When a new photo seems to match an existing one, the software sends alarms that someone may be trying to assume another driver's identity. However, face-recognition software can fail to match two photos of the same person if facial expressions differ in each photo, meaning that dull expressions "make the comparison process more accurate," says Karen Chappell, deputy commissioner of the Virginia DMV, whose no-smile policy took effect in March.

TOP FIVER SIGNS YOU'RE HEALTHIER THAN YOU THINK

From Woman's Day:

  1. You have several cups of coffee each day -- A recent Swedish study found that people who drink 3 to 5 cups of coffee daily at midlife are less likely to develop dementia and Alzheimer's later on.
  2. You say "thanks" -- A new study reveals that expressing gratitude may be the key to happiness and overall well being.
  3. You laugh a lot -- Research has shown that laughter expands blood vessels and might even lower your heart attack risk.
  4. You tidy up your house -- Just 20 minutes of sweeping, scrubbing and doing other household chores can boost your mood, not to mention burn calories.
  5. You surf the Internet. UCLA research shows that it stimulates brain activity.

YOUR MAN IS MAKING YOU FAT

Hey, ladies, if you've mysteriously begun packing on the pounds, the culprit may be the man in your life, says a recent study. Getting married or moving in with a beloved can wreak havoc with a woman's healthy habits, including her diet and exercise program, says obesity expert Dr. David Haslam. When a woman lives with a man, their meals often become social events loaded with hefty-size, calorie-rich dishes intended to please the guys. Blinded by love, the damsels often end up eating larger portions of less healthy foods, perhaps replacing salads and fish with meat and potatoes, the doctor reports in the British medical journal The Lancet. In a cruel twist of fate, men gain proportionally less weight because their more muscular bodies require more calories, anyway. Making the problem even worse:

  • The lovebirds are more likely to consume calorie-laden romantic meals in restaurants.
  • Women often start skipping exercise sessions to spend "quality time" with their guys or to handle family errands.
  • Taking the contraceptive pill causes many women to pack on about four extra pounds.
  • Having babies often causes women to gain weight that can be difficult to shed after the little ones are born.

REASONS IT'S GREAT TO BE A WOMAN

  • When a ship sinks, women (and children) get off first.
  • A woman can hug her best friend without worrying she'll think she's gay.
  • Women can talk to attractive members of the opposite sex without having to picture them naked.
  • If a woman cheats on her spouse everyone will assume it's because she was being emotionally neglected.
  • Women live longer than men.
  • If a woman inexplicably disappears for two weeks, one of her friends will notice.
  • There are times when a woman can make all her problems disappear with a piece of chocolate.
  • A woman can fully assess a person just by looking at their shoes.
  • A woman can take a drive without trying to beat her best time.
  • If a woman forgets to shave, no-one has to know.
  • Women are capable of going longer than five minutes without thinking about either sex or football.
  • Women never lust after a cartoon character or the central figure in a computer game.
  • Women can be groupies. Male groupies are stalkers.
  • Women can cry and get off a speeding ticket.
  • A woman can congratulate her team-mate without ever touching her rear.
  • If a woman says something stupid, most men will just think she's cute.
  • If a woman cries, she's sensitive; if a man cries, he's a wimp.
  • Women know who their children are without having a DNA test.
  • Women can watch one TV channel at a time without getting bored.
  • A woman won't drive to Hell and back before she asks for directions.

Improve Your Cellphone Battery Life.

Check out these tips to extend your cellphone's battery life.

  • Turn Off The Vibrate Feature - The energy required for turning the tiny motor which causes the phone to vibrate is almost double to that required for the same phone to ring.
  • Turn Off Back Light - If you do require to use the back light then its best to keep your back light time out to no more than 3 seconds.
  • Use Cellphone Just For Talking - Avoid playing games, using the built in camera feature, listening to music, instant messaging or surfing the web.
  • Reduce Volume Level - Another way to increase your cellphones batteries is by lowering down the volume for the ring tone and by turning of unnecessary sounds.
  • Turn Off Your Cellphone When Necessary
  • Take Care Of Your Cellphone Battery - If possible try to fully charge your batteries nightly at minimal once every three days.

Cellphone batteries do lose their charge capacity as they age. This is due the general wear and tear and is to be expected. On average you can expect a modern cellphone battery to last for a couple of years before needing replacement.

Wedding proposals Gone BAD

Wedding proposals are usually the high point of couples' relationships, but not all of them go as planned. Here are seven wedding proposals that went awry:

  1. The woman who swallowed the engagement ring hidden in a milkshake.
  2. The engagement ring that took off inside a helium balloon.
  3. The quirky marriage proposal that triggered an UFO alert.
  4. The man who dropped the ring on Brooklyn Bridge.
  5. The woman who was swept out to sea before proposal.
  6. The man who got rejected in front of 20,000 people.
  7. The woman who swallowed her engagement ring hidden in a cake.

KFLAG COUNTRY MUSIC UP DATE

John Rich turned himself in to the Metro Davidson County Criminal Justice Center in Nashville yesterday (Thursday, May 28th) to face misdemeanor assault and harassment charges brough against him by Jared Ashley, a 2006 finalist on Nashville Star. Rich says the charges are false, but Ashley claims the Big & Rich member hit him in the face while he was visiting Rich's private club in Nashville, called The Spot, with a mutual friend back in March.

Because Ashley discussed the incident during an interview with a Florida radio station, Rich slapped him with a countersuit for defamation.

Unable to reach a settlement with Ashley, Rich has decided to fight the charges leveled against him through the legal system.

Rich issued a statement through his attorney about the situation. It reads:

"This entire ridiculous situation is nothing more than an effort by singer, Jared Ashley, and music row attorney Chris Sevier, to try to obtain money from me. Mr. Sevier and Mr. Ashley have falsely accused me of misdemeanor crimes. I trust that the truth will come out through the process of our American justice system and that I will be completely exonerated at the end of the day.

It's unfortunately common in my line of work that there are a very small number of people who want to take advantage of another person's success and try to get something for nothing. I truly did make every effort to work this out in connection with the defamation lawsuit I filed against Mr. Ashley. Yesterday, I decided that a civil settlement would be impossible due to the fact that Mr. Ashley and his attorney demanded that I pay Jared Ashley 2.9 million dollars, even though he is the one who has defamed me. He has now chosen to bring these false charges against me.

Ultimately, and out of principle, I will not allow myself to be coerced into paying 2.9 million dollars to Mr. Ashley and his attorney Chris Sevier in exchange for dropping these frivolous misdemeanor charges. I intend to defend myself through the legal process to the fullest extent of the law."

SIDE NOTES

  • Ashley's claims of harassment include threatening voice mail messages from Rich and Gone Country winner Sebastian Bach, which he played on the air while visiting a station in Tampa.
  • Rich also showed up at one of Ashley's Nashville shows, jumping on stage and threatening the singer. Watch a fan's cell phone video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEeAUadXYnw&NR=1 .

The title track of Reba McEntire's upcoming album, "Keep On Loving You," came compliments of Ronnie Dunn. McEntire tells us she hit up her good friend for the song after the duo opted not to put it on their album. "They had recorded it, and they said they were really trying to put more up-tempo songs on the album, and I said, 'Man, you missed it. That is a killer song,' and he said, 'Well, I like it.' I said, 'Why don't you let me have it?' He said, 'What?' I said, 'Why don't you let me have it. I'll record it.' He said, 'Are you serious?' I said, 'Yeah.' He said, 'Alright, you can have it.' I said, 'Oh no, you sleep on it. You talk to me in the morning.' He said, 'No, you can have it.' And so I called him the next morning and he said, 'Still you can have it,' and so, boy, I went in there and recorded it quick (laughs), and that's the title of our album -- 'Keep On Loving You.'"
  • Keep On Loving You will be released on August 18th.
  • The debut single, "Strange," is a Top 15 hit on the Billboard country chart.
The case against Gary Allan's alleged stalker will go before a grand jury in Sumner County, Tennessee on July 24th. Forty-seven-year-old Katherine Walker appeared in court on Wednesday (May 27th) to face charges of burglary, vandalism and stalking after throwing potted plants around the outside of Allan's home, breaking a kitchen window, tossing patio furniture into the singer's pool and throwing an outdoor heater from a second-story balcony. Her actions were captured by security cameras at Allan's Hendersonville, Tennessee home.

Allan was also in court on Wednesday. He claims the woman has been stalking him for four years, but Walker told the media that he has been stalking her for two years, saying "He's really, really hurt me and basically ruined my life."

  • Walker's wrath was provoked when she spotted another woman's car at Allan's home on May 3rd, the same night she says Allan led her to believe via online messages that he would meet her at a local bar for drinks, according to The Tennessean.
  • Allan told police that Walker had shown up at his residence several times, in addition to recently causing a scene at a Nashville club.
  • Allan's attorney has also filed a civil lawsuit against Walker.
  • In the meantime, Walker has been ordered to stay away from Allan and anyone associated with him.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

A house in the college town of Manhattan, KS, is being given away free. There is a catch, though. The new owner has to pick up the 6-bedroom, two-story house and move it.

Mike Tyson's 4-year-old daughter, Exodus, has died after accidentally hanging herself on a piece of home exercise equipment.

Elizabeth Taylor is out of the hospital and back home again. I'm afraid I never knew she was in.

American Idol finalist Danny Gokey says he'd like to try "Dancing with the Stars." Sounds like a match.

Victoria's Secret supermodel Adriana Lima and her NBA star husband Marko Jaric are expecting their first child together.

Remember the house where Cameron lived in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"? The one where his dad's Ferrari went flying. The real Chicago home is up for sale, all yours, for just $2.3 million.

Add this to your knowledge base: the pharmacy people at Costo told me that, for whatever reason, the day after Memorial Day is their biggest day of the year.

ARE YOU OBSESSIVE-COMPULSIVE?

(Sun) Cleaning more often and enjoying it less? Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. Modern day anxiety causes more of us to act out in a compulsive way, say experts. "Stress caused by money troubles, job loss or caring for a sick relative can intensify a person's obsessive tendencies," explains Houston psychologist Gregory Pearl. So do you have full blown obsessive-compulsive disorder or just an excessive amount of nervous energy? Find out by taking this quiz.

Once you shake hands with someone, you:

  1. Often worry you might have picked up germs.
  2. Make a quick trip to the restroom to wash your hands.
  3. Immediately spritz with a germ killing hand cleaner.

Thoughts of something bad happening to a loved one make you:

  1. Silently fuss at yourself for thinking such nonsense.
  2. Whisper a quick prayer of protection.
  3. Grab a cloth and begin dusting your work area.

When you leave the house, you:

  1. Allow extra time to double check locks and faucets.
  2. Sometimes worry you left an appliance running.
  3. Always make sure everything is turned off.

After chatting with a pal at a get together, you:

  1. Never worry that you said the wrong thing.
  2. Often agonize that you said something embarrassing.
  3. Call your friend the next day to make sure you were not misunderstood.

Analysis

Mostly "a" - Don't lose any sleep over your minor quirks, you're definitely not an OCD candidate. It's human nature for most of us to say a prayer to ward off tragedy. And thoroughly check over the house before you leave is a smart habit that could prevent numerous problems later.

Mostly "b" - There's no doubt your behavior patterns include some compulsive actions you can't control. But being a bit fussy is no sure indication of obsessive compulsive disorder. The few rituals you do repeatedly practice aren't enough to disrupt your everyday life.

Mostly "c" - Face it, kiddo, you've definitely got some OCD tendencies. Luckily, you manage to keep a lid on most of your wackiest impulses. However, if you think it's appropriate, there's nothing wrong with a visit to a therapist so you can talk about your problems and find solutions.

BREAK THE ICE

(Woman's Day) Making new friends isn't always easy, especially if you get tongue tied. Debra Fine, author of The Fine Art of Small Talk, tells you how to get a conversation going and keep it flowing:

  • Next time you're at a gathering, look for an approachable person. In a room of many, you're bound to see one person standing alone.
  • Find common ground. Rather than asking if she's married, ask her about her family. Or ask how she knows the host.
  • Stay on topic for a few minutes. If you're chatting with another mom, ask what keeps her busy outside of the kids. Use verbal cues, like "Really?" to encourage her to continue.
  • Suggest lunch, but be sure to request her number or e-mail so you can set a date. "Let's do lunch sometime" gets you nowhere.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

If you're planning a party, don't worry about inviting blondes just make sure you put plenty of right handers on the list. And, while you're at it be sure and snub the lefties. An old Clairol hair dye commerical claims that blondes have more fun. But scientists report that right handers are more adventurous and more playful across the board and across species. In contrast, left handers are more timid and stodgy. This tendency comes from the quirky way mammals' brains are hardwired, say experts. The right side of the brain which handles fear controls the left side of body. The brain's right side also favors logic and calculation. The left side of the brain which stifles fear controls the right side of the body. The brain's left side prefers creativity and instinct. (National Examiner)

The best way to shake off stress is to read a good book. Novels take your mind off your worries as your brain turns the words into mental pictures, experts explain. "The words on the page stimulate your creativity and cause you to enter what is essentially an altered state of consciousness," says neuropsychologist Dr. David Lewis. Lewis and his team at the consulting firm Mindlabs International recently tested the soothing effects of several activities. And reading fiction came out number one, clamming people's stress levels by 68%. Second came listening to music, which slashed stress 61%, followed by a serving of either tea or coffee, which reduced tension 54%. Finally, going for walks cut stress 42%. (National Examiner)

Bizarre new vehicles let riders get a leg up on pedestrians and drivers alike by being as fast as a car and as nimble as a person on foot. "The road of tomorrow is going to be the sidewalk," explains engineer Geoff Sophinae. "Cars will take a back seat to personal mobility." The Chariot, a hands free device created by Exmovere Holdings, balances itself and is steered by reading subtle body movements. Users control speed and direction without lifting a finger. Students at the University of Louisiana built an electric scooter that, like the Chariot, is controlled by the user's body movements but that moves on insect-like legs instead of wheels. It's not as fast as the competition, crawling at 3 miles per hour, but later models could be outfitted with larger legs capable of going much faster and climbing up stairs. (Sun)

The harder you think, the more you eat. Volunteers attended a lab three times: once to recline in a chair for 45 minutes, once to read and summarize documents, and once to complete a memory test. When offered an all you can eat buffet following each task, they ate an average of 860 calories, 1,063 calories, and 1,113 calories, respectively. Using your brain may cause fluctuations in key appetite hormones, says study author Jean-Philippe Chaput, Ph.D. After a stressful day, hit the gym exercise helps stabilize hunger regulating hormones. KFLAG COUNTRY MUSIC UP DATE

Montgomery Gentry will be the newest members of the Grand Ole Opry. The duo were surprised with an invitation to join during their performance at the Opry on Tuesday (May 26th). Charlie Daniels appeared in the audience and made his way on stage, saying, "I have been chosen to do something very special. I have known you guys for a long time, and I am very proud of all your accomplishments. If you agree to it, on June 23rd you're gonna be made members of the Grand Ole Opry!" Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry hugged each other and Daniels. Gentry replied, "I'm speechless," while a visibly emotional Montgomery borrowed a handkerchief from Daniels to wipe his eyes.

  • Gentry told us earlier this year that Opry membership was the duo's next big goal. "We've been on the Opry for many years -- well, ever since we've been in the business. We always try to make it our business to get in there and play the Opry, so that's probably the next biggest milestone Eddie and I would like to accomplish is to become members of the Grand Ole Opry, and I think it'd be a great honor cause it is kind of an elite club to be a member of and it'd be very flattering and honoring to be a part of that club."
  • Montgomery Gentry made their Grand Ole Opry debut on March 3rd, 2000.
  • The duo join Kenny Chesney at his Sun City Carnival tour stop on Saturday (May 30th) in their hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.
Kenny Chesney's new album, Greatest Hits II, debuts at Number One on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart this week. More than 89,000 copies of the compilation were sold its first week, landing the album at Number Three on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart.

FAST FACTS

  • Greatest Hits II includes five multiple-week and four single-week Number One hits.
  • The album's only new single, "Out Last Night," is a current Top Five hit.

Miranda Lambert's new single, "Dead Flowers," was the very last song she wrote and recorded for her upcoming untitled album, due out in September. She quickly penned the song by herself and then immediately sought out her boyfriend, Blake Shelton, for his opinion, she tells us: "I wrote it by myself, and it was just a very kind of last-minute thought to add it to the record cause I wrote it -- it was the last song I wrote -- before I recorded, and Blake and I put it down. I wrote it in about 30 minutes and I took it over to his house and I was like, 'Do you think this song is good or what do you think about it?' and he was like, 'I love it!' So he played it for me on a guitar vocal on my little computer thing, and he actually invented the guitar riffs that are in the song."

Lambert says that Shelton added his touches here and there on the album, which she tells us is different from her previous two CDs. "It's definitely so diverse. It's very throwback. A lot of the songs on there, the style is, I think, kind of vintage feeling a little bit. Honestly, Blake and I, we collaborated on three songs on this record. We wrote three songs together, and I branched out a little bit when it came to songwriting. I wrote a lot by myself and I wrote a lot with him and with different writers."

  • Lambert is currently on tour with Kenny Chesney. The Sun City Carnival tour plays another stadium show on Saturday (May 30th) in Louisville, Kentucky.
What will likely be George Strait's 58th Number One hit is being released to radio today (Thursday, May 28th). The song is called "Living for the Night," and it's the first single from Strait's upcoming album, Twang, which is due in stores this fall.
  • Strait continues his tour tonight with a show at the P.N.C Bank Center in Holmdel, New Jersey. He plays the first show at the brand new Cowboys Stadium in Dallas on June 6th. That concert, which also features Reba McEntire, Julianne Hough and Blake Shelton, sold out in one hour.

SIDE NOTE

  • Strait was recently named the ACM Artist of the Decade for the 2000s, joining only four other artists who have received this distinction: Marty Robbins for the 1960s, Loretta Lynn for the 1970s, Alabama for the 1980s and Garth Brooks for the 1990s.

Martina McBride will perform at the 2009 Canadian Country Music Awards (CCMA)on September 13th in Vancouver. This is her first time to participate in the CCMA's. Other performers that night include Terri Clark and Johnny Reid. The 2009 CCMA nominees will be announced on July 29th in Toronto.

Members of the military stationed at Norfolk Naval Station and Fort Bragg will be the first to hear Tracy Lawrence's new inspirational album, The Rock. Lawrence will spend Sunday (May 31st) and Monday (June 1st) personally delivering the project. The Rock won't officially be released until June 9th, but it will be made available to military personnel on these bases 10 days prior to the retail sale date.
  • Lawrence said, "I've been told by a number of listeners that The Rock has really touched them in some way. I cannot imagine the emotions and turmoil our service men and women endure on a daily basis and to bring an emotional or moving message 'home' to them is the least I can do as a memento of my heartfelt appreciation for taking care of me and my family and our entire country."
  • As part of his visit to Fort Bragg, Lawrence will visit the Womack Hospital and the Wounded Soldier Support Center to meet injured soldiers.

FAST FACTS

WANT TO KNOW YOUR CHOLESTEROL?

FIND OUT THE NEXT TIME YOU GIVE BLOOD

Having your cholesterol checked is a good idea for everyone. Did you know that you can find out your number and do a good deed at the same time? United Blood Services began providing free cholesterol testing for blood donors last year and it’s been a hit.

Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance that occurs naturally in all parts of the body. Your body needs some cholesterol to work properly. But if you have too much in your blood, it can stick to the walls of your arteries. This is called plaque. Plaque can narrow your arteries or even block them. If you have high levels of cholesterol in your blood, it can increase your risk of heart disease. Your cholesterol levels tend to rise as you get older. There are usually no signs or symptoms that you have high blood cholesterol, but it can be detected with a blood test. United Blood Services does a “total cholesterol” test that allows donors to eat before the test—no fasting required.

“We use the ‘total cholesterol’ test because it’s important for donors to have a healthy meal before they donate,” said Ann Trilby of United Blood Services. It is recommended that adults have a different cholesterol test, called a lipoprotein profile, every 5 years. A lipoprotein profile requires a 12-hour fast and is done at a physician’s office or lab.

Donors can check their confidential results at www.bloodsystems.org the week after their donation.

Donors are encouraged to eat a meal that is high in iron the night before they donate and drink at least six bottles of water to keep them hydrated.

Blood donors must be 17 years or older and in good health. People who have given blood at least three times—with one of those donations in the past six months—are eligible for a streamlined health interview with fewer questions before their donation. Donors are asked to bring a photo ID and Donor Card every time they donate. First-time donors receive a Donor Card with their blood type in the mail shortly after their first donation.

United Blood Services has been this area’s non-profit community blood provider since 2002 and serves patients in all hospitals in the Tri-State area The United Blood Services network is one of the nation’s oldest and largest non-profit blood service organizations, and is a founding member of America’s Blood Centers and the AABB.

DID YOU KNOW?

BOSSES LOOK DOWN ON CHILDLESS WOMEN? TresSugar.com reports that research conducted over six years shows that far from bosses and colleagues always being suspicious of a working mother, the opposite is becoming true: it is the childless woman who is regarded as cold and odd. An outspoken mother and former boss is quoted in the Daily Mail as saying that she simply cannot understand why a healthy woman would choose not to have kids. She says that women who chose to focus on their careers, instead of starting a family, make employers question their "essential humanity."

FATHERS WITH DAUGHTERS MORE LIKELY TO TURN LIBERAL: Economists claim to have found a correlation between the number of daughters and sons in a household and their father's political views. Professor Andrew Oswald, from Warwick University, and Dr. Nattavudh Powdthavee, of York University, wrote in an unpublished article that has been submitted to an economics journal: "This paper provides evidence that daughters make people more Left-wing, while having sons, by contrast, makes them more Right-wing." Professor Oswald said that having daughters made men "gradually shift their political stance and become more sympathetic to the 'female' desire for a . . . larger amount for the public good. They become more Left-wing. Similarly, a mother with sons becomes sympathetic to the 'male' case for lower taxes and a smaller supply of public goods."

ANTI-SNORE PRODUCTS REPORTEDLY DON'T WORK: Expensive treatments for snoring are more likely to keep you awake rather than providing a peaceful night's sleep, a consumer watchdog has warned. The study by Which? concluded that more than 70 percent of people who have tried the over-the-counter remedies found they do not work. Supposed snoring cures included wire up the nostrils, nasal strips and even a three month singing course on a CD.

OPPOSITES DO ATTRACT: When it comes to choosing a mate, opposites really do attract, according to a Brazilian study that found people are subconsciously more likely to choose a partner whose genetic make-up is different to their own. They found evidence that married couples are more likely to have genetic differences in a DNA region governing the immune system than were randomly matched pairs. "Although it may be tempting to think that humans choose their partners because of their similarities, our research has shown clearly that it is differences that make for successful reproduction, and that the subconscious drive to have healthy children is important when choosing a mate," Maria da Graca Bicalho of the University of Parana said in a statement.

MEN UPSET WITH BIOLOGICAL CLOCK REPORTS: Salon.com reported on a recent study that suggests men have their own biological clock. Researchers found children born to 50-year-old fathers scored slightly lower on intelligence tests than children of a 20-year-old father, regardless of the mother's age. The researchers analyzed data from more than 33 thousand American children. The study's outcome is a hot topic in the blogosphere. Lisa Belkin of the New York Times said, "The men are getting really angry and the women are a little too gleeful ..." Salon added that now "there is a new sense of urgency with some men."

The defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings take a 3-1 series lead into tonight's home game against the Chicago Blackhawks. If the Red Wings beat Chicago in the West finals, it will set up the first finals rematch since the Edmonton Oilers and the New York Islanders met in 1983 and 1984.

The Orlando Magic are heading to Cleveland with a 3-1 series lead in the NBA Eastern Conference finals following their 116-114 overtime win last night. The Magic offset a 44-point performance by LeBron James with 27 points and 14 rebounds from Dwight Howard and a career playoff-best 26 points from point guard Rafer Alston.

L.A. Lakers coach Phil Jackson is $25,000 lighter in the wallet after being fined that amount by the NBA for criticizing the officiating in his team's 120-101loss to Denver in Game 4 of the Western Conference finals. That series shifts to L.A. for tonight's Game 5 with the winner taking a 3-2 series advantage.

THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT FAT (Discover magazine)

They're doing something right out West. Sixty-six percent of Americans are overweight or obese, and the national obesity rate doubled between 1976 and 1999. But as of 2007, California was the only state not getting any fatter.

  • The root of the problem? Depending on gender and how active they are, adults should eat 2,000 to 3,000 calories per day. U.S. agriculture now produces 3,900 calories of food per inhabitant per day.
  • People who regularly eat dinner or breakfast in restaurants double their risk of becoming obese.
  • The National Institutes of Health believes obesity is one of the reasons why the fastest-growing group experiencing infertility is that of women under 25.
  • Each year nearly $50 billion is spent on diet programs.
  • People who lose just 10 percent of their weight report significant improvement in their sex lives.
  • Over the course of a year, about 10 percent of an adult's fat cells die. Alas, the body promptly replaces them.
  • The total number of fat cells in your body remains constant once you reach adulthood.
  • Even after radical weight-loss procedures such as stomach stapling, fat cells return to their pre-surgery numbers within two years.
  • Liposuction is the only way to actually reduce the number of fat cells in your spare tire. Diet and exercise just shrink them.
  • New Zealander Pete Bethune gave a whole new meaning to biofuel when he used his own fat, removed via liposuction, to power the world's fastest eco-boat. A way to solve the obesity epidemic and the fuel crisis?
  • It may make you prettier, but not healthier. Liposuction doesn't remove fat from around the internal organs, so your fat-related health risks are unchanged.
  • Obesity is more heritable than schizophrenia, high blood pressure and alcoholism.
  • The brain is about 70 percent fat.

TOP LIES WOMEN TELL

Fibs about shopping top the list of tall tales women spin to get what they want in the world, says the author of a new book that rips the lid off the secret lives of gals. "Women lie more cleverly and successfully than men," says Susan Shapiro Barash, the author of "Little White Lies, Deep Dark Secrets: The Truth About Why Women Lie." "They lie as a survival technique but also to get what they want." After interviewing 500 women across the country. Barash discovered:

  • About 75% of women hide how much money they spend. These women confessed to stunts like sneaking purchases home and hiding price tags.
  • The second most common reason for women to lie is cheating. About 60% of the gals confessed to having had an affair.
  • Motherhood comes in at number three on the hit parade of female falsehoods, with about 50% of moms having mixed feeling about rearing their kids.
  • Women often lie to get what they want from people, including lovers, co-workers and bosses.
  • They also tell lies either to keep up appearances or one up others, including untruths about plastic surgery, children's accomplishments or husbands' success.

WORST THINGS YOU COULD EVER SAY ON YOUR RESUME

When you're looking for a job, you obviously want your resume to work for you, not against you. One of the ways you can turn all your hard work into a fiasco is to give your prospective employer too much personal information. A recent survey conducted by Harris Interactive for CareerBuilder.com asked hiring managers to share the most unusual resumes they've seen.

  • Candidate mentioned in his resume that he spent summers on his family's yacht in Grand Cayman.
  • Candidate attached a letter from his mother.
  • Candidate used pale blue paper with teddy bears around the border.
  • Candidate explained a gap in employment by saying he was getting over the death of his cat for three months.
  • Candidate specified that his availability was limited because Friday, Saturday and Sunday were "drinking time."
  • Candidate included a picture of herself in a cheerleading uniform.
  • Candidate drew a picture of a car on the outside of the envelope and said it was the hiring manager's gift.
  • Candidate included the fact that her sister once won a strawberry-eating contest.
  • Candidate explained that they worked well in the nude.
  • Candidate explained an arrest by stating, "We stole a pig, but it was a really small pig."
  • Candidate included a family medical history.

KFLAG COUNTRY MUSIC UP DATE

A slew of country superstars will pay tribute to the "King of Country Music," George Strait, tonight (Wednesday, May 27th). George Strait: ACM Artist of the Decade All Star Concert will feature performances by Dierks Bentley, Brooks & Dunn, Jamie Foxx, Faith Hill, Jack Ingram, Alan Jackson, Jamey Johnson, Toby Keith, Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride, Tim McGraw, Montgomery Gentry, John Rich, LeAnn Rimes, Blake Shelton, Sugarland, Taylor Swift, Keith Urban and Lee Ann Womack, as well as a special appearance by Garth Brooks. The show airs on CBS at 8 p.m. ET.

  • Strait was named the ACM Artist of the Decade for the 2000s, joining only four other artists who have received this distinction: Marty Robbins for the 1960s, Loretta Lynn for the 1970s, Alabama for the 1980s and Garth Brooks for the 1990s.
  • Brooks tells us he credits Strait with keeping the country format in line when the music started to stray. "The 80s started out with the Urban Cowboy thing and everything was moving kind of pop-ish. It was Strait, to me -- him and Reba -- that held the door down, so he's kind of been the center post, the rock, on everything, and the greatest thing is he's al]
  • In Brooks' opinion, Strait has deserved the "artist of the decade" title for the last 30 years. "For the record, I love Alabama (but) I thought he shoulda won it in the 80s, and I don't know who won it in the 90s, but he shoulda won it then, and he shoulda won it this decade. I know you can't probably give that to him, but, for me, he's been the guy."
  • Blake Shelton echoes that sentiment, holding Strait above all others. "I don't know how it is across the rest of the country as much, but growing up in Oklahoma George Strait was not just the king of country music, he was the king of the world. Just his image, just his name, his music -- everything was larger than life."
  • Martina McBride actually paid tribute to Brooks, the ACM's Artist of the Decade in the 90s, during the show. She told us about the song she chose to sing. "I performed honoring Garth Brooks, the artist of the decade for the 90s, who means a great deal to me. We have a long relationship, a long friendship, and I chose 'The Dance' because when I was opening for him I would watch him sing that song every night and it just never failed to completely move everybody in the room, and it just holds a very special place in my heart."
  • This first-ever ACM Artist of the Decade television special was taped at MGM Grand Garden Arena in April. Proceeds from the live concert benefited ACM Lifting Lives, the charitable arm of the Academy of Country Music.

Even better. Using my gift to encourage and inspire others during this tough economic time? My purpose. This event is the total package for me and I'm going to sing it like nobody's business."

HANGOVER RELIEF

Apples eaten on an empty stomach the day after drinking is an effective remedy.

Bananas One of the quickest ways to cure a hangover is to make a banana milkshake sweetened with honey. The banana helps calm the stomach, and with the honey, builds up the depleted blood sugar levels. The milk soothes the stomach and rehydrates your system. Bananas are also rich in the important electrolytes, magnesium and potassium, which are severely depleted during heavy drinking.

KFLAG COUNTRY MUSIC UP DATE

Brad Paisley charted his 10th consecutive Number One hit this week with "Then." The feat makes him the only country act to do so in the 19-year history of Nielsen BDS-monitored airplay. It also puts him in the elite company of Alabama, George Strait, Ronnie Milsap, Earl Thomas Conley, Sonny James, Conway Twitty, and Paisley's hero, Buck Owens, as the only country acts in Billboard history ever to achieve ten or more consecutive chart-toppers.

  • Paisley co-wrote "Then," which is the first single from his upcoming CD, American Saturday Night. The album will be released on June 30th.
  • "Then" is Paisley's career 14th Number One hit.
Keith Urban might be adding two more trophies to his extensive collection of awards at the CMT Music Awards on June 16th. Urban is nominated for Male Video for "Sweet Thing" and Collaborative Video for "Start A Band" with Brad Paisley.

While proud of his awards, Urban tells us he keeps his environment trophy-free when he's trying to write songs."I don't sort of keep them on display or around the house in areas where I have to create cause I don't want to look at all that if I'm trying to write a song. I'd much rather try and put myself in an environment that's as similar as it can be to the very beginning."

Urban adds that he has divvied up his awards to date, sharing them with his manager and his parents. "There's some here in the office here in Nashville, and my mom and dad have a bunch of them, and there's some in the house, but I just don't have 'em in a writing room where I gotta be if I gotta write. I like to keep it pretty lean and simple -- just a little shoe box cassette recorder and some drum machines and guitars, you know? (I) keep it the same all the time."

  • Urban is set to perform on the CMT Music Awards.
  • In the meantime, he continues on his Escape Together World tour.

Reba McEntire attended the groundbreaking for a new Reba's Ranch House in Denison, Texas on Saturday (May 23rd). The new-and-improved facility will be a place for families to stay while their critically-ill loved ones are being treated at nearby Texoma Medical Center, which is also being re-built. The original Reba's Ranch House was built in 1992. To date, the House has sheltered more than 24,000 people.
  • McEntire told the local NBC affiliate, "My family has been a part of the Texoma Medical Center for years, coming down here, getting medical help. So, we understand what it's like to have to sit in a waiting room or wonder where you are going to sleep. So, that's why the Reba's Ranch House is so important to us, so people do have a place to go when they have friends and family in the hospital."
  • McEntire performed a benefit concert for Reba's Ranch House at Choctaw Casino on Monday (May 25th).

FAST FACTS

  • McEntire is from Chockie, Oklahoma, which is about an hour from Denison.
  • Guests may stay at the Ranch for a minimal cost of $15 per night, or free, depending on the person's ability to pay.

The CMT Music Awards will be held on June 16th in Nashville.

Joe Nichols' star status did not get him out of having to audition for the lead role in the Broadway musical, Pure Country. Nichols won the part of Dusty, previously played on the big screen by George Strait, but he tells us that his performance will be based largely on himself. "I had to audition for the part. I had to go up to New York and meet with the producers and the director and read several pages from the script, and I think they bought into me. They don't want me to be George Strait playing a character. I think they want me to bring myself into this part and offer that. Even with the songs, I'm not up there to sing George Strait songs as if I'm doing karaoke. I'm up there to do 'Heartland,' 'I Cross My Heart,' and the other things for the musical as me, as myself, and that's the really cool thing that they're allowing me to do."
  • Pure Country starring Nichols is scheduled to open on Broadway early next year.
  • Nichols will move to New York later this fall to begin rehearsals for the show.
  • In the meantime, his new single, "Believers," is making its climb up the country charts.

BABY MAKES EBAY BID FOR $12,300:

A New Zealand mother made a few auction bids online before taking a nap, but didn't realize that while she was resting her 3-year-old daughter took over her computer and bought some construction equipment worth the equivalent of $12,300. Pipi Quinlan made the winning bid on the earth-moving digger while her mother was asleep. Pipi's mother, Sarah, said that when she woke up, "I saw an email from TradeMe saying I had won an auction and another email from the seller saying something like 'I think you'll love this digger. It wasn't until I went back and re-read the emails that I saw (the price) and got the shock of my life." TradeMe reimbursed the seller's costs for the auction after Sarah called the auction house to explain what had happened. (AP)

  • Little Pipi probably thought the digger was a toy truck, not a real one. We checked eBay and she can get a Tonka excavator/digger for only $9.99 -- if her mother ever lets her near the computer again.

BEAT YOUR BAD HABITS

(Men's Health) Zero tolerance is the only way to break a bad habit. So don't indulge scratch that inch mentally. Here's how:

  • Wear a rubber band -- When you feel a craving coming on snap your wrist three times quickly. Scientists and torturers call this negative reinforcement: Craving equals pain. It's akin to smacking yourself in the nose with a newspaper.
  • Pour yourself a glass of cure -- When it comes to nervous habits, water is your secret weapon. When you feel a craving coming on, chug at least 10 ounces of water. It's amazing how well this works.
  • Switch sides of the bed -- If you're a consistent habit former, you should overhaul your routines; what time you wake up, what you eat for breakfast, what route you take to work, and so on every three months.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Natalie Cole received a new kidney last Wednesday.
  • Simon Cowell's ex, Terri Seymour, was attacked after the "Idol" finale Wednesday night. A woman walked up to her, asked if she was "Simon's girlfriend" and then began strangling her. The nutjob was arrested. We're sorry, alleged nutjob.
  • British actress Lucy Gordon, who appeared in "Spider-Man 3," was found dead in her Paris apartment after apparently committing suicide. She was 28.
  • 35-year-old Ethan Zohn, the curly-haired soccer winner of Survivor: Africa back in 2001, has cancer -- stage 2 Hodgkin's disease.
  • Former soap star Lisa Rinna, who appeared naked in Playboy last month, has confessed that her lips aren't real. She had silicone lip injections 23 years ago. Well, duh.

SPEED UP YOUR HANGOVER RECOVERY:

AskMen.com provides some tips for how to feel better more quickly after drinking too much the night before with their hangover recovery kit.

  • Mineral water -- One of the reasons for that awful hangover feeling is that alcohol dehydrates you, so drinking water before, during and after imbibing will help. Carbonated mineral water is a good bet if you stomach is feeling queasy. Recommended brand: S. Pellegrino
  • Sports Drink -- Non-caffeinated, non-carbonated sports drinks not only provide hydration, they replenish the sodium, glycogen, potassium and other minerals lost because of the diuretic effect of alcohol. Recommended brand: Vitamin Water
  • Body Wash -- Taking a shower with refreshing body wash will make you feel more alert and wash away the toxins you've been sweating. Recommended brand: AXE Snake Peel
  • Eggs -- The protein provides needed energy, and eggs also contain the chemical cysteine, which breaks down the hangover-causing toxin acetaldehyde. Recommendation: Go with organic eggs.
  • Fruit -- Bananas, kiwi and apricots help replace potassium and electrolytes, while the water and natural sugar in fruit is easier on your stomach than processed foods. Fructose increases energy, and vitamin C in citrus fruits boosts immunity. Recommended: Bananas, kiwis and oranges
  • Painkillers -- Recommended brand: Alka-Seltzer Wake-Up Call, with aspirin as its active ingredient. Aspirin inhibits prostaglandins, which have been found to increase hangover severity. AskMen.com's writer says, "From someone who has had a lot of hangovers, this product works better than any other."
  • Low-Fat, Sodium-Rich Food -- You may be craving heavy, greasy food, but it's better to go with lighter foods like crackers or whole-wheat toast, which deliver energy, sodium and electrolytes. Recommended brand: Triscuit Rosemary & Olive Oil Crackers

Brad Paisley's current hit, "Then," was inspired by his wife, actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley, as well as the wives of his co-writers. The singer and his collaborators all came at the song from a shared perspective, as Paisley tells us:"We had a goal in mind, the three writers and I who wrote that, and it was to capture the feelings that you have early in a relationship, and then to sort of take what is a mature relationship and describe how those feelings change and really do get better. I mean, we were all three in that place in our lives, and being able to say that as well as I think we did, it was really cool to see that come to life like it did."

Paisley says he'd had the concept in his mind for quite a while. "That song was somethin' I wanted to write for a long time - that exact thing, essentially. I didn't know I wanted to write that exact song, or I would have written that exact song a long time ago."

Kris Allen took home this year's American Idol title!

Knocking judges' favorite Adam Lambert to the runner-up slot. The Conway, Arkansas native had been described as this year's "underdog" and "dark horse," but in the end the 23-year-old married singer won the hearts of America to become the show's eighth winner. Just under 100 million votes came in this year -- marking a new world record and beating last year's tally of 97.5 million. Although the judges, including Simon Cowell, raved about Adam's powerful vocals, Kris had a few performances later in the season that showed both his vocal and musical talent.

When it came time to announce the winner, both Kris and Adam stood close with their arms around each other. Kris looked completely shocked when host Ryan Seacrest announced that he was this year's winner, saying, "It feels good...Adam deserves this. I'm sorry I don't know what to feel right now. Thank you so much." He then sang this year's Idol song "No Boundaries," co-written by judge Kara DioGuardi.

The night was chock full of duets and performances by this year's contestants and stars, including the Black Eyed Peas, David Cook, Cyndi Lauper, Keith Urban, Carlos Santana, Lionel Richie, Steve Martin, Queen and Rod Stewart.

Some Highlights:

  • Ryan introduced all four judges with humorous video clips, mocking some of their funny habits. Randy Jackson's consisted of all the times he has said, "for me" or "for me for you" to contestants throughout the season. Kara's clip was all about how many times she called contestants "sweetie" or "honey." Paula Abdul's video clip showed her vast vocabulary, while Simon's poked fun at how many times he couldn't hear things over the course of the season.
  • The Top 13 returned to sing "So What" by Pink.
  • Last year's American Idol champ, David Cook, sang his new song "Permanent." Cook talked about his brother, who recently died after a battle with cancer. Cook said both Kris and Adam are great performers and great guys.
  • Ryan gave out this year's Golden Idol Awards, first paying tribute the outstanding male, which went to Nick Mitchell, known for his flamboyant and theatrical performances.
  • Lil Rounds and Queen Latifah sang "Cue The Rain."
  • Jason Mraz made an appearance to sing his hit song "I'm Yours." He sang along with this year's American Idol contestants.
  • Kris teamed with country star Keith Urban on the song "Kiss A Girl."
  • The contestants did a version of "Glamorous" by Fergie. She then came out to sing "Big Girls Don't Cry." Then the Black Eyed Peas came out to sing their new single "Boom Boom Pow."
  • The Golden Idol for Best Attitude went to Katrina Darrell. She sported a bikini when she accepted her award. DOG CHOICE REVEALS HER PERSONALITY

Susan Heitler, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist, says that when a woman chooses a dog, "something about that dog needs to resonate with something the woman likes about herself":

  • The pocketbook pup -- Maltese, Chihuahua. It means: She loves attention and flouts rules by taking the dog everywhere. John C. Wright, Ph.D., a professor of psychology at Mercer University, says of such owners, "They're dying to hear, 'Oh, what a darling puppy.' -- as though it says something about them."
  • The playful pooch -- Labrador, golden retriever. It means: She's adventurous, a guy's girl who's not afraid to sweat. A Lab says playful; a golden implies affection -- they like to lick, says Heitler. Licking is good.
  • The mutt -- Could be anything. It means: She's bighearted, a rescuer, a woman who looks beneath the surface. "She's very confident and says, 'I see value in you, even though everyone else in the world thinks you're ugly,'" says Wright. Don't take it personally.
  • The chic dog -- Pug, Kerry blue terrier. It means: She's trendy, possibly superficial, Heitler says. She may have bought it as a fashion accessory without studying its traits, warns Marty Becker, D.V.M., author of "Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul."
  • The powerhouse -- Great Dane, Irish wolfhound. It means: She likes a challenge -- and protection. A powerful dog may mirror her personality. "The hidden agenda may be, 'Be careful and don't do anything stupid,'" ] says Wright.

10 surefire ways to "tick off" your co-workers

Do you have a coworker that drives you crazy? What do they do that frustrates you so? Well, Careerbuilder.com offers 10 surefire ways to "tick off" your co-workers. Now let us count the ways:

  • Is it always all about you? Are you preoccupied with your own career path and looking good at the expense of others? Do you put others down while you pump yourself up? Instead, conduct yourself in such a way that other people will want to see you succeed -- let their genuine support and admiration of who you are pull you to success.
  • Answering cell phone calls during meetings. A surefire way to aggravate people is to consistently respond to calls, e-mails and pagers when in conversation with others.
  • Sending voice mails that go on and on and on. At the end of a voice message, replay it and hear how you sound. Difficulty in getting to the point?
  • Acting like a bureaucrat. Do you drag out turnaround times and play control games? Do you create obstacles or barriers for others to do their work? Making mountains out of molehills is another surefire way to alienate people.
  • "I'm like, ya know..." You are your words even more so in virtual relationships. You may be communicating with people worldwide who know you only by the sound of your voice or the tone of your e-mails. Become conscious of how you use language and stop communicating in ways that cause you to sound inexperienced or unprofessional.
  • Acting unethically. Make sure you are clear on your organization's ethics policies and have the courage and conviction to uphold them. It's easy to draw the line on major violations but watch for the subtle ways you may be pulling others in the wrong direction to achieve goals.

Kenny Chesney stars in a new commercial for Corona beer, the main sponsor for his current Sun City Carnival tour. The superstar shot the ad on the beach in Cancun. The spot features Chesney's song, "Old Blue Chair," from his 2005 Be As You Are album. And speaking of chairs, Chesney tells us he spent a lot of time in the old blue one on the commercial shoot. "It was kind of funny -- all those guys from Corona and all the people workin' in that shoot, they were saying, 'Man, you're doing really good. Sorry we're out here workin' your butt off.' I started thinkin, 'I'm sitting in this blue chair on a beach with my guitar. I'm just sittin' here playin' around.' I said, 'This isn't work. This is a lot of fun,' even though I sat in that chair for a long time doin' that commercial."

Chesney adds that the spot accurately reflects what he's all about. "It kind of marries my two worlds a little bit, my two passions, and I think that the relationship and the marriage with Corona is perfect for me right now. I gotta tell you, it's afforded me a lot of free beer at the house, and we have a lot of fun pool parties, but in all seriousness, I'm a pretty laid back guy, really, and I try not to take myself too seriously, and I think that that relationship with Corona fits perfect for me."

  • Chesney's Sun City Carnival tour plays in Greenville, South Carolina tonight (Thursday, May 21st).
Taylor Swift was a big winner at the BMI Pop Awards in Beverly Hills on Tuesday (May 19th). She walked away with an award for her crossover -- or "spillover," as she likes to call it -- hit "Teardrops on My Guitar," in addition to receiving the President's Award, which honors "an exceptional individual in the entertainment industry deserving of special recognition," according to a release. The BMI President's Award is presented only on unique occasions when an individual has "distinctly and profoundly influenced the industry."

Jordin Sparks was fourth with $3.1 million, and Kellie Pickler claimed the Number Five spot with $2.3 million earned in 2008.

Miranda Lambert will be putting out a new album soon. Her third untitled project catches Lambert at a different place in life, one that will be reflected in the new music, as Lambert tells us: "I don't know, I feel like I don't have to prove as much anymore. I'm not walking around with my feelings on my sleeve, proving to everybody, 'I'm tough. Here's who I am.' I've really been able to sort of slowly but surely let everybody know, 'Hey, this is who I am. What you see is what you get,' and I think with both Kerosene and Crazy Ex it's kind of obvious, but I feel, like, a little more settled in life now."

With both her professional and personal life on the upswing, Lambert says she's more at ease than she was with her two previous albums. "My career's on a really good path and I have a farm and kind of a life of my own outside of my parents and outside of the bus and a great boyfriend and just a little more settled, not like in a homey mom kind of way, but in my heart I just feel like a little bit, you know, just not so rushing around all the time and trying to prove to people something. I really feel that this record kind of portrays that, but there still is some crazy stuff on it -- don't you worry!"
  • There is no word yet on when Lambert's new album will be released.
  • Her debut single, "Dead Flowers," is making its way up the country charts.

WHAT KIND OF DRIVER ARE YOU?

(Sun) Do you prefer to quickly arrive at your destination or choose a meandering route? Would you rather be the passenger instead of the driver? Studies show that how you answer those and other similar questions determines how to make every drive a safe one. See what kind of driver you are:

  • I find even routine drives are fun, tend to drive fast, have no patience with slow pokes and appreciate colorful scenery. - You're an energetic person who's always revved up for an adventure. But you're a lead foot behind the wheel, rushing to your destination while grousing at slower drivers. Leave a few minutes early and listen to soothing music. You'll arrive on time and relaxed.
  • I enjoy people admiring my car, would rather do other things than drive, like fancy, hi-tech vehicles and think I'm a safe driver. - You buy fashionable cars that provide plenty of comfort. Hanging out in the middle lane away from both fast and slow drivers will work to your advantage. Add some fun to the driving experience by decorating your vehicle with jazzy floor mats or colorful decals.
  • I have a big vehicle, prefer to be the one driving, often complain about the price of gas and think my car is like a living room. - As in most aspects of your life, you're totally in command behind the wheel and dislike backseat critics. Avoid driving too close to other drivers tailgating is the leading cause of crashes. Stay off major highways when possible. The scenery is always better.
  • I value gas mileage over style, keep the car spotlessly clean, always signal my turns and never tailgate the guy in front of me. - You're a practical person who thrives on keeping your environment organized and predictable. Store plenty of maps because you're relaxed when you know the exact route. Keep a supply of cleaning tools in the trunk to maintain the fastidious interior.
  • I'd rather ride than drive, think I'm not such a good driver, have absolutely no vanity about my car and rarely take it to a carwash. - You're a warmhearted person who'd rather serve soup in your homey kitchen than run the roads in a flashy ride. When you must drive, choose routes with less traffic. Join an automobile club like AAA to take the worry out of roadside breakdowns.

DID YOU KNOW?

(Netscape) Little white lies are tossed our way daily. The friend who says the gift is in the mail, the neighbor who says they love your new fence, the sales clerk who claims his store is offering big savings on everything in stock. But how good are you at spotting the ones that really matter? Try these tips from the experts:

  • Hear the voices -- Listen to the pitch.
  • Watch those words -- What about written material? Liars tend to use fewer first person pronouns.
  • Look past shifty eyes to body language -- The eyes can tell a lot, but it's also vital to consider the context of the behavior.
  • Get better at body language -- No single part of the body will tell you the whole story.
  • Check for emotional leaks -- It isn't the frequency of a smile that matters, but the type of smile.

The worst kind of co-worker is a prima donna, someone who feels he or she is entitled to undeserved preferential treatment. You know, the person who is likely to take credit for good outcomes, but blame others when things go wrong. Prima donnas are not only less happy in their jobs, but also are apt to cause conflict in the workplace, especially with their supervisors, according to researchers at the University of New Hampshire and Florida State University. And younger workers, specifically "Generation Y" employees, who were born between the late 1970s and 2000, are more apt to be prima donnas. Why? Managers report that employees in this age group often have unrealistic expectations and a strong resistance toward accepting criticism.

A broken heart can really break your heart. That's the finding of a study showing women in rocky relationships are more likely to suffer from depression, which can trigger metabolic syndrome leading to heart disease, stroke and diabetes. A study of couples wed at least 20 years found that women in bad marriages were more likely to suffer ill health than those in happy unions, according to University of Utah researchers. Meanwhile, men were not affected nearly as much. Men with relationship troubles had only a slightly increased chance of depression metabolic syndrome. (National Examiner)

Some light haired ladies are literally dye-ing to keep their jobs, and they're not dumb blondes, either they know they'll be lookedAdd Image upon as smarter and more efficient with brown hair. With layoffs all over and jobs hard to come by, experts estimate 1 in 3 female employees with light hair are following the lead of actress Scarlett Johansson and singer Fergie by taking a ride on the darker side. A new study backs them up, too. Researchers say 62 percent of people think brunettes look more professional in the workplace triggering a great number of blondes to try to stain to make a gain on the job. "It's incredible how changing your hair color can alter people's perception of you," explains expert Dan Hadley. In the study, 38 percent of blondes feel their hair color has held them back in their careers. And 38 percent of blondes who've dyed their hair believe they are being taken more seriously by their boss. (National Examiner)

The Nashville home of LeAnn Rimes and her husband, Dean Sheremet, is up for sale. The couple are asking $7.45 million dollars for the property, which they built just last year and features six bedrooms, seven-and-a-half bathrooms and exercise and media rooms.

A friend of Rimes and Sheremet tells People that their decision to sell has nothing to do with the state of their marriage, but rather Rimes' need to spend more time in Los Angeles and New York due to TV, movie and theater opportunities.

Rimes' marriage has reportedly been on the rocks since she was busted having an alleged affair with her Lifetime movie co-star, Eddie Cibrian, who is also married and has two children.

  • The friend told People, "(LeAnn and Dean) are still having challenges and trying to work through them. They're working on their marriage."
  • On Sunday (May 17th), Rimes was spotted chatting with Cibrian at a Los Angeles Lakers basketball game. The two allegedly ran into one another unexpectedly at the event

Kellie Pickler will return to The Ellen DeGeneres Show today (Wednesday, May 20th) to tape a performance of her current hit, "Best Days Of Your Life." SIGNS YOU HAVE A CHEATING WIFE (AskMen.com)

  • She's no longer as needy: If she was never able to go shopping, exercise or cross the street alone, and she suddenly doesn't need your company, it may mean that someone else is filling your shoes. It's possible that she just needs time to herself, but if she's unusually independent when she used to be overly needy, it may signal that she's just no longer as needy . . . of you.
  • She no longer gets angry: She used to get angry if you didn't want to meet her for lunch or come out with her and her friends, but now everything you do is all right by her. Once upon a time, your every move had to be premeditated, but now all the small things you used to mess up aren't enraging her. This could be a good thing, but it should make you wonder why she no longer cares.
  • She's being secretive: She's no longer sharing her daily events with you, and in order to find out what she's doing, you'd have to hack into her BlackBerry because she's not volunteering any information regarding the goings-on in her life.
  • She places the focus on you: When you do ask her questions, she turns the tables on you. The former chatterbox's batteries have run out, and when you ask her how her night was, mum's the only word. It's now all about you, you, you, rather than "I did this" and "I went here last night."
  • She showers you with pleasure: Now that it's all about you, your girlfriend is always complimenting you, asking you to go out, giving you "I love you" cards for no reason whatsoever, and even offering to wash your car and watch the boxing match with you. While these gestures are more than sweet, it's this kind of overcompensating behavior that can make one suspic

MOMS TURN TO DRINKING, DRUGS AND GAMBLING IN RECESSION: CNBC reports that a recent survey showed moms are overwhelmed with financial pressures that have escalated since the economic downturn began. One in three moms surveyed by MomLogic.com and the Insight Research Group this spring said they have turned to a vice such as overeating, drinking, drugs and/or gambling to cope with the stress. Two-thirds said they feel intensely negative emotions, resulting in arguing, fits of crying and frustration as they worry about the state of the world, how to pay the bills, etc.

DAYDREAMING HELPS YOU SOLVE PROBLEMS: Asylum.com reports that allowing your mind to wander activates the part of your brain associated with solving difficult problems. Researchers scanned the brains of students while they performed simple tasks on a computer. When their attentiveness to the tasks waned, the brain regions associated with complex problem solving lit up. "When you daydream, you may not be achieving your immediate goal -- say, reading a book or paying attention in class -- but your mind may be taking that time to address more important questions in your life, such as advancing your career or personal relationships," explained Kalina Christoff, who worked on the study.

BETTER EDUCATION MEANS YOU'RE HEALTHIER: A new study released by Commissionhealth.org found that better education leads to better heath. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Commission to Build a Healthier America surveyed Americans' levels of education and health and found that a college degree is a good predictor of "very good health."

Scientists have found that eating cereal each morning is a real brain booster, keeping your mind alert for longer. A whole grain breakfast, such as porridge, muesli or bran enriched cereal, cuts by more than half the brain's decline in performance during the day, say dietitians at King's College, London. In contrast, eating food with a high glycemic index, such as white toast or skipping breakfast all together, is bad for concentration. (Globe)

Sweet news. Blueberries help reduce belly fat. Researchers found that obese lab animals who ate a blueberry rich diet lose abdominal fat and experienced lower cholesterol and improved glucose control. The fat fighting effects of blueberries were evident in animals fed both high fat and low fat diets but were greatest among those on low fat diets, according to University of Michigan researchers. They theorize that blueberries may change how the body stores and processes glucose. More research is needed to confirm these results in humans. (National Enquirer)

Designers at Japan's National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology are still working out a few of the kinks especially the way HRP-4C holds her legs. In order to stay balanced, she still needs to keep her knees bent at all times do don't expect to see her modeling any miniskirts for this summer's collection. (Sun)

Scientists have discovered yet another roadblock on the path to a peaceful settlement in the war between the sexes differences in how men's and women's brains react to beauty indicate they may never see eye-to-eye. A person's sex alters the way he or she perceives beauty especially with objects like paintings or sculptures, says a new study. Researchers used brain scans to analyze the reactions of 20 volunteers to either paintings or pretty scenes or photographs of city scenes. When women saw something beautiful, the scan revealed that their entire brains became active. But when men perceived beauty, the scans showed only the right side of their brains alerted. "Perhaps women make use of both global and local features in making their judgments, whereas men only rely on global features," says study leader Francisco Ayala of the University of California at Irvine. "Perhaps women are more likely to associate images with verbal labels then men." (National Examiner)

Forget that old baby-boomer stereotype of the husband neglecting his wife for his job, younger men are actually more likely than women to say they'd pick love over career, according to a study of 237 college students published in Gender Issues. When asked to rate their life goals, 61% of men surveyed versus 51% of women, said they would sacrifice another goal, such as career, education, or traveling, for a romantic relationship. No surprise that he'd rather be married to you than to his job.

Thirst can masquerade as hunger, which is one reason dieters should stay hydrated. Now German researchers have found another reason: Water fuels your body's fat burners. For 90 minutes after drinking 16 ounces of chilled water, adults saw their metabolism rise by 24 percent over their average rates. According to the study author, Jens Jordan, M.D., the mechanism is partly due to the energy your body generates to warm the water during digestion. (Men's Health)

When it comes to washing away bacteria, you might think that an antibacterial cleanser would outshine ordinary soap. But in three out of four studies recently reviewed by researchers from the University of Michigan School of Public Health, regular hand soap turned out to be just as effective as products containing the germ fighter triclosan. The one study that was the exception found that antibacterial soap worked better only after volunteers scrubbed for at least 30 seconds 18 times a day for five days. What's more, no studies have shown that washing with antibacterials stops the spread of illness in families. The researchers also looked into the question of whether using these germ fighting cleaners encourages the rise of drug resistant bacteria. They didn't find a direct link but noted that in lab studies some germs live quite happily around triclosan, and the exposure may help them develop resistance to common antibiotics. Women who slept five or fewer hours a night were 32 percent more prone to major weight gain, 33 or more pounds, and 15 percent likelier to become obese over 16 years than those who got seven hours a night - even though the seven hour sleepers actually ate more, according to the Nurses' Health Study, a long term study tracking 68,183 women. Research shows insufficient sleep can increase levels of the appetite stimulating hormone ghrelin and boost blood glucose and prediabetes risk. (Ladies' Home Journal)

Nearly half of all Americans describe themselves as shy. What most of us don't realize is that the root of shyness is excessive self-consciousness, not timidity. "Shy people feel as if they have mirrors all around them," says Bernardo J. Carducci, Ph.D., director of the Shyness Reach Institute at Indiana University Southeast. "They want to be social and have friends so they force themselves to go to social functions, but it's difficult when they're so preoccupied with how they come across."

STRESS BUSTERS FOR LADIES

Okay, we all get stressed out right? Dr. Lynne Tan, psychiatrist at Montefiore Medical Center in New York, and some stars share their tips to "chill-out."

  • Write things out -- Writing your thoughts channels energy from something negative into something positive. Jessica Simpson says she goes through a journal every 5 months.
  • Pamper yourself -- Take care of yourself! Go get a massage! Hilary Swank says, "I love to relax with a pedicure!"
  • Change your focus -- Go to a museum, read a book, focus on what makes you happy! Britney Spears says she reads every night to stop her mind from remembering her soon to be husband is a mooch (just kidding -- but I know now she thinks it).
  • Calm down girl -- Take a tip from Oprah... she says when things get chaotic she heads straight for a bubble-bath. The crazier things are on the outside... the calmer she needs to be on the inside.
  • Hit the gym -- Working out is just plain good for you -- body and soul! Eva Longoria says she's been working out for a long time and feels great!
  • Get back to nature -- Christina Applegate likes to re-connect with nature and de-stress... She sets aside at least 20 minutes in the sun every day.

When they told me about Rock Band, that was pretty neat, and so I'm excited. I'll definitely be going and getting the game and seeing if I can play my own song on there."

Until recently, Aldean and his band members spent every spare minute playing another popular video game. "We actually played Guitar Hero on the bus for a couple months straight, and it kind of cooled off a little bit now, but, you know, it's cool! I'm a big video game guy anyway. I love video games and all that stuff."

First confirmed Songs for Rock Band Country Track Pack are:

Alan Jackson "Good Time"
Brooks & Dunn "Hillbilly Deluxe"
Dierks Bentley "Free & Easy (Down the Road I Go)"
Dixie Chicks "Sin Wagon"

  • Rock Band Country Track Pack will retail for $29.99.
Trace Adkins and newcomer Emily West performed a free concert at the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth, Texas on Saturday (May 16th) in honor of Armed Forces Day. West's brother, a sailor assigned to the base, was in the audience.

Craig Morgan, a former member of the Army, recently did a concert at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The Toast to the Troops show also served as a volunteer event where 10,000 care packages were assembled to send to troops overseas.

  • Morgan told CMT, "What it means to be at an event like this is really beyond words. Having been a soldier in the military for so long, that's still a part of who I am. But I can't go out there and put the uniform on or go back to Afghanistan and do what I did, so this is a way for me to do that . . . This is one of the most humbling experiences that we have -- to see the spouses and family members coming in with such excitement and so proud and packing these bags."

FAST FACTS

  • Adkins traveled to Iraq and Afghanistan last year where he and his band performed for more than 10,000 United States military personnel in partnership with the USO.
  • The West Point Glee club made a special appearance on Adkins' recording of "'Til The Last Shot's Fired" for his X (Ten) album. They also joined him onstage at the ACM Awards in Las Vegas last month where Adkins debuted the song live.

Kid Rock flew his country flag with a couple of guest appearances on stage on Sunday (May 17th) at the 27th Annual Downtown Hoedown in downtown Detroit. Rock first got up with the Zac Brown Band -- after taking Brown to the Detroit Red Wings' Stanley Cup playoff game earlier in the day -- for a rendition of his own hit "All Summer Long." He told the Hoedown crowd that Brown's major label debut album, The Foundation, is "one of the best CDs I've heard in the last 10 years." Then, after visiting Willie Nelson on his tour bus with his son and older brother, Rock joined the headliner during his set for a rendition of "Shotgun Willie."
  • Rock is currently recording his follow-up to his 2007 album Rock N Roll Jesus. He plans to have it ready for release this fall, with a single out by the time he hits the road with Lynyrd Skynyrd in June.
  • The Hoedown, which is held at Detroit's Hart Plaza, is billed as the world's largest free country music event.

Darryl Worley's recent concert at a fair in Miles City, Montana ended with a trip to the hospital for the singer, and that was after overcoming all sorts of obstacles just to get to Miles City. The singer had just returned to Nashville after a show in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Thursday (May 15th) morning at 12:30 a.m. and had to catch a 6 a.m. flight from Nashville to Billings, Montana. It wasn't until after he arrived at the airport that he learned his flight to Billings had been canceled because the plane was struck by lightning. At the last minute, Worley chartered a private jet to the show, where he arrived weary but ready to perform. He hit the stage just as a large storm blew in. Worley had just started his second song when a 40-50 mph gust of wind lifted the lid off a road case and hurled it in his direction. Before he had a chance to react, the lid hit his microphone stand and then struck him on the head.

Emergency personnel transported Worley to the emergency room, where he received seven stitches and thanked hospital staff by signing autographs and taking a few pictures. Worley then headed back to the fairgrounds and finished his set.

FAST FACTS

  • Worley's new single, "Sounds Like Life To Me, is making its way up the country charts.
  • The song is the lead single from his upcoming album, Sounds Like Life, which will be released on June 9th.
Lee Ann Womack's new single, "Solitary Thinkin," was solitarily written by fellow Texan Waylon Payne, the son of the late "Help Me Make It Through The Night" singer, Sammi Smith, and longtime Willie Nelson guitarist, Jody Payne. The godson of the late Waylon Jennings, Payne certainly knows how to write a real country song, as Womack tells us: "When I first heard the work tape for 'Solitary Thinkin'', I was blown away. First of all, it was written by a guy name Waylon Payne, and Waylon's just so talented. He's a great singer and I love the way he writes songs because they're not contrived at all. If you know Waylon, you know that he's lived everything he puts in his songs, and it doesn't sound like they came from a factory. His things are always a little bit different and I love that kind of stuff, so that's probably the first thing that attracted me to 'Solitary Thinkin''.""Solitary Thinkin'" is on Womack's 2008 Call Me Crazy album.

SIDE NOTE

  • Payne played Jerry Lee Lewis in Walk The Line, the 2005 feature film about the life of Johnny Cash. The movie also starred Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix.
Sara Evans is offering fans a chance to compete for the opportunity to sing on stage with her in the Sara-oke Fan Club Party Challenge. To enter, fans must choose a karaoke version of one of her hits and record a video of themselves singing it. The clips should then be posted on Evans' Fan Club YouTube channel.

Three finalists will be chosen from the submissions. Those videos will be shown at Evans' fan club party in Nashville on June 12th, where attendees can then vote on their favorite. The winner will be invited on stage to perform that song live with Evans.

  • Complete Sara-oke rules and details, including Evans' video invitation, are online now at saraevans.com.

SIDE NOTES

  • Evans will be releasing a new CD sometime this year. The project is her first studio album since 2005's Real Fine Place.
  • The new CD will be released in conjunction with a novel Evans is writing. She signed a book deal with Nashville-based Thomas Nelson Inc. earlier this year. The book will be the first in a series of four.

Saturn turns Direct: Opportunities Open Up!

Saturn, the slow moving planet of karma and the taskmaster of the zodiac, which has been retrograde since December 31 of last year, finally turns direct on May 16. This ushers in a period of possibilities as our inner plans begin finding their way into the outer world, and vague outlines of concepts begin to sharpen.

Saturn asks for commitment, discipline and a sense of purpose to work its magic of making dreams real. He commands us to get to work, and to work hard. Discipline and responsibility are important to this planet. Saturn reinforces responsibility, carrying your share of the load and being held accountable for what you say or do. Saturn rules wisdom, but it is wisdom gained from hard work and experience -- earned one difficult step at a time. During a direct period, Saturn inspires confidence. As its role as a teacher, during a direct transit, Saturn also bestows inner strength -- a strength of spirit, a deepening sense of compassion and understanding of self, others or a particular situation.

But remember: Each planet exerts influence over certain aspects of life depending on how they are placed in your individual natal or birth charts.

Rascal Flatts' new single, "Summer Nights," was practically made to order for their upcoming American Living Unstoppable tour, which kicks off on June 5th in Maryland Heights, Missouri. Gary LeVox tells us it goes out to the fans on the lawn. "We definitely think about the songs that we put on there for the live show, and 'Summer Nights' was written just for that big outdoor amphitheater -- a little something for everybody drinkin' in the lawn seats."

The group tends to lean toward ballads on their records, so for the sake of their live shows, LeVox says they make a conscious effort to throw in a few up tempos. "(LeVox) It's a big thing because we're such suckers for ballads anyway. To try to find great up tempo songs becomes tougher and tougher. We are very cognizant of all the songs on there and puttin' together a live show, cause we'd probably have 11 ballads if we really wanted to have a boring show. (DeMarcus) If left to our own devices. (Rooney) We like ballads. (LeVox) Yeah, we do!"

  • Rascal Flatts will be joined by Darius Rucker on the American Living Unstoppable tour, sponsored by JC Penney.
  • "Summer Nights" is the second single from the trio's Unstoppable album, which was released last month.

I told him what I was doing, and that was that."

Regardless of how that may sound, Brooks is in full support of Cox's book. He has not read it, but he tells us if it comes from her, it's okay with him. "If Patsi's writin' it, its, you know . . . Her and Virginia Team are two women in Nashville that I would never want to go against. They're tougher than nails and they'll kick your ass so quick, and Patsi Cox has always been a fan and always been very fair to us, so I don't worry about what this one's gonna say."

Brooks has read many mistruths about himself over the years, but he says he has no plans on ever setting the record straight with his own book. "No, and I'll tell you why -- because the truth is only what we remember it to be, so I doubt I ever would. Um, I don't know -- maybe one of those books that, 'Hey, I need the money, so' -- and I don't title it that, but -- 'Hey, I need the money so I'm writin' a book' kind of thing, but I kind of hope not, cause I like to hear it from other peoples' perspective, and there are some things that I have read, little blurbs and stuff, that I go, 'Wasn't the way it happened at all,' so I don't want them saying the same thing about mine."

  • Brooks is reportedly serving as executive producer on a film based on his hit song, "Unanswered Prayers." The made-for-TV movie will air on Lifetime television. No air date has been announced.

YOUR CHEATIN' HEART

If you think your mate is running around on you, you can settle your suspicions with a few good whiffs -- in their car. That's the advice from Raymond B. Green, author of Cheaters: 180 Telltale Signs Mates Are Cheating And How To Catch Them. Green says the car is filled with clues to a cheating heart. Here are a some signs to look for.

  • Gas fumes -- Your hubby's probably trying to cover up the scent of another woman by spilling gas in the car.
  • Moist towelettes -- If your beloved suddenly starts stocking up on those clean-up tools, she's probably flooring it with another guy.
  • Strange stains -- If you're finding mysterious splotches on the front passenger's seat or the back of the car, chances are good that your boyfriend is messing around with someone else.
  • She's startled -- Another tip-off to a cheater is if she's startled when she wakes up in your bed. That could mean she's confused at not waking up in her other lover's arms, Green says.

STONES REVEAL PERSONALITY

Your favorite stone, and we're not talking about Mick, used to adorn your body reveal much about the inner you, a noted expert says. "A woman's favorite gemstone is always a dead giveaway to her personality," Dr. Elayne Kahn, author of Ways You Reveal Your Personality.

  • Diamonds -- "Because they are among the most expensive, these stones are most loved by women who appreciate the finer things in life," Dr. Kahn said. "They also suggest an extremely romantic person. The late princess Diana comes to mind here.
  • Pearls -- "Women who love pearls prefer a low-key, conservative but classy lifestyle. Pearl ladies prefer a style of demure and elegance. First Ladies Barbara Bush, Nancy Reagan and Jackie Oasis usually wore pearls."
  • Rubies -- "Red is the color of passion so it's not unusual for ruby-loving women to be passionate and capable of winning -- and breaking -- hearts. They are unpredictable, creative and artistic individuals who don't mind standing out in a crowd. Sophia Loren wears rubies."
  • Sapphires -- "Women who favor these gems are deep thinkers who can be extremely determined and single-minded. Women of mystery gravitate to sapphires. Screen queens like Great Garbo and Grace Kelly favored this exotic stone, which emphasizes a very sexy aloofness."
  • Emeralds -- "Women with a sense of power like Cleopatra's favorite gemstone, the emerald. It helps them make the statement that they are unique and not to be fooled with. Watch old movies starring Irish beauty Maureen O'Hara, and you'll see the power of the emerald."
  • Amethysts -- "resourceful, spiritual and intuitive women are attracted to these purple or lavender stones. These women trust their instincts. She is a woman who would rather find a soul mate than a rich husband. She leads with her heart."

No money for a vacation? How about a STAYCATION?

  • Create a budget: Although you won't have the expenses of leaving home, you will want to consider how much your staycation activities will cost. If you plan on eating out more, spending one or two nights at a local hotel or starting a project that requires investment -- plan a budget.
  • Avoid errand creep: Don't end up doing so many things around the house -- replacing the light bulbs, cleaning out the garage, fixing the front door etc. -- that you miss taking the time you need to just chill. If you have a few closets you really want to clean out, schedule a specific day and time to do them.
  • Become a tourist in your own town: You know that old joke about how most New Yorker's have never been to the Statue of Liberty? Buy a guidebook on the area you live in and read through it for things you might like to do. Take a guided tour, helicopter ride, boat trip, see the zoo etc.
  • Keep friends at bay: Unless you want a major part of your staycation to be visiting with friends, don't over schedule the lunches, dinners and get togethers. You want the space (and freedom) to be spontaneous.
  • Visit a day spa: Just because you're not staying at a five star resort with a world-class spa, does not mean you can't get scrubbed, rubbed and pampered! Check out a day spa in your area and set up a treatment or two. If you really want to splurge go for broke and do a full-day package.
  • Set goals: Think about what you want to accomplish on your staycation. Is there a book you have been dying to read? A whole slew of movies you want to catch up on Romantic time you want to spend with your spouse? Take the kids to the new exhibit at the zoo? Time to think through your long-term goals? Naps? Whatever objectives you set, let them dictate the organization of your time off.
  • Block out check in times: Just as you would with a regular get away vacation, set up specific times when you are going to check in with the office and stick to them. Don't let the proximity of work, lure you away from your stay-at-home holiday.
  • Stay overnight: If your staycation is a week or longer consider spending one or two nights at a local hotel. Just getting away for a night, can feel exotic and fun. Not to mention romantic if you go with your significant other.
  • Do something different: One of the advantages of a traditional vacation is that it puts you in a different environment, where the opportunity to try something new is greater than usual. There is no reason you can't apply this same idea to your staycation. Check out your local scene for activities that you might not normally do but sound fun.
  • Do nothing: Never underestimate the value of waking up when you want to and doing whatever you want, whenever you want, all day long. Don't feel like your staycation has to produce any tangible results - it doesn't. Just getting renewed and refreshed is reward enough.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Olympic swimmer Amanda Beard says it's all true: she just got married and yes, she's 5 months pregnant with her first baby.
  • Shirley Jones, you know the wholesome mom on the '70s sitcom, "The Partridge Family," wants to pose nude in Playboy. She's 75 and her husband Marty Ingels, says "She's still drop-dead gorgeous."
  • The smell in a San Jose office building was so strong that the building had to be evacuated and seven employees were sent to the hospital. The cause of the odor? A really moldy and disgusting office fridge.

If you have ever DRUNK DIALED you are in good company!

Brad Pitt has reportedly been "drunk dialing" his ex-wife, Jennifer Aniston. A supposed insider told Britain's Now magazine that after receiving the call, "She [Jen] was initially taken aback -- especially as he sounded drunk and sorry for himself. He told her he misses her and that he's sorry for any hurt caused. Jen being Jen immediately told him she'd never held a grudge against him and would welcome them being friends again, so long as she doesn't have to be friends with Angelina. He agreed."

  • The source added, "Before the call, Brad hardly ever spoke to Jen and the relationship was strained. But this phone conversation broke the ice and opened the lines of communication once more."

MAXIM RELEASES ITS' 2009 TOP 100

House star Olivia Wilde topped Maxim's annual Hot 100 list. The actress admitted that the honor is impressive, explaining, "I'm considered sexy even though I'm wearing a lab coat every day and seen as a doctor on TV. That really says something. • Michelle Obama nabbed a spot on the list at 93 because of "her accomplishments, her fashion sense and her triceps." Classics like Angelina Jolie and Scarlett Johansson came in at 26 and 34, respectively, and although Lauren Conrad dropped off the list, her The Hills co-stars Audrina Patridge, Whitney Port and Heidi Montag all scored spots.

The Hot 100 Top 10 are:

KFLAG COUNTRY MUSIC UP DATE

Kenny Chesney's Greatest Hits II will be released on Tuesday (May 19th), but it might be missing a few of your favorites. The compilation includes 14 hits and one new song -- his current single, "Out Last Night" -- but Chesney tells us he intentionally left out some titles that might surprise you. "There's some songs that were really good songs for us that didn't make this record. I mean, 'Better As A Memory,' 'Who You'd Be Today,' uh, 'You Save Me,' 'Keg In The Closet,' 'Shiftwork.' Even though it was a good record for me and a duet with one of my heroes, it just didn't feel right to me. A lot of those songs didn't because I wanted the Greatest Hits II record to be something that made impact, that just maybe people didn't hear a lot on the radio, and so that was kind of the criteria."

Chesney says he had some specific goals that he wanted to achieve with Greatest Hits II. "I wanted this collection of songs to do a couple of things. I wanted it to, for somebody who hasn't seen us live, to put this in and go, 'Wow! That might be a lot of fun,' and to kind of define emotionally kind of where I've been since the No Shoes album came out, and a couple of those songs were a little too real (laughs), if that's possible."

  • Chesney recently taped an episode of Austin City Limits accompanied by his band, the four-piece horn section he takes on the road and his special guest on the Sun City Carnival tour, percussionist Drummie Zeb from the Wailers. They did such signature songs as "Beer In Mexico," "Young," and "Summertime" as well as "Out Last Night" "Anything But Mine," "Better As A Memory," and "Old Blue Chair. The 80-minute set also included Chesney's first public performances of "Boats" and "Somewhere In The Sun." He was joined by surprise guest Mac McAnally on the duet "Down The Road" and the anthemic "Back Where I Come From."
  • Chesney's episode of Austin City Limits is set to air sometime this fall.

Meet and greets on Jason Aldean's tour continued to be canceled, at least through this weekend's dates. Aldean tells us this is merely a precaution against the much-reported Swine Flu, particularly because of the part of the country in which he'll be performing."When you release an album your schedule's kind of crazy, and the last thing you wanna do is get sick, especially when they start talking about something being pandemic or whatever the hell they said it is, and so originally it was for that, and I guess Texas is one of the worst places it is, so we have a four-day run coming up in Texas right now, so we just kind of said, 'Let's just keep it as is til we get through Texas and then we'll kind of start opening it back up.'"

Aldean says he's especially concerned about being in Texas after the death of a child his daughter's age was reported. "I'll be honest with you, too -- they had the, I guess it was a little boy in Texas that died that was like two years old, and I've got a two-year-old at home. Canceling a meet and greet, to me, is a small thing versus canceling a show or bringing something like that home to my kids, so we're just being cautious, and some people might think it's a little over cautious, but, you know, it's not something that we are gonna do long term. It's something that we're gonna open back up as soon as we can."

  • Aldean's Texas dates begin tonight (Thursday, May 14th) in Odessa. He'll play in San Antonio and Houston before wrapping up the run on Sunday (May 17th) in Laredo.

FAST FACTS

  • He celebrated his recent Number One hit, "She's Country," at a party in Nashville earlier this week.
  • Aldean's new single is called "Big Green Tractor."

Taylor Swift took her shot at ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas in the song "Forever And Always" on her current Fearless CD. Now it's Jonas' turn. The Jonas Brothers' new single, "Paranoid," is reportedly Jonas' retaliation against Swift. The lyrics read: "Caught in a nightmare/Can't wake up/That's why my ex is still my ex/I never trust a word she says/I'm running all the background checks/And she's freaking out."
  • The song is the debut release from the Jonas Brothers' Lines, Vines and Trying Times album which will be released on June 16th.
  • In the meantime, Swift is tearing up the road on her sold out Fearless tour. Tonight's (Thursday, May 14th) show is in Spokane, Washington.

ASK YOUR LISTENERS

  • Do you think this whole Taylor Swift/Joe Jonas situation is immature and lets everyone know exactly how young they are, or do you think it's justifiable behavior for the sake of art?
  • Do you think it's fair to let the private details of a relationship be made public, especially in the case of celebrities?
  • Who do you think is to blame for the breakup between Swift and Jonas?

CMT host Allison DeMarcus goes behind-the-scenes of the photo shoots for People magazine's country edition when the half hour special, People Country On CMT, premieres tomorrow (Friday, May 15th) at 1:30 p.m. ET. The show will feature new interviews with many of the sexy singers named "Country's Hottest Guys," including Trace Adkins, Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley, Jack Ingram, Chuck Wicks and Blake Shelton.
  • People Country hits newsstands on Friday (May 15th).

Marty Stuart and Charley Pride will be honored by their home state of Mississippi as headliners at this year's third annual "Mississippi -- The Birthplace of America's Music -- Celebrates Its GRAMMY Legacy" gala. The event will take place at Harrah's Horseshoe Casino and Hotel complex in Tunica on May 28th. The gala will be hosted by Governor and First Lady Haley and Marsha Barbour. The evening will also include performances by R&B artist Dorothy Moore, blues man Pinetop Perkins, and James Burton, Elvis Presley's former sideman.

SIDE NOTES

  • Actress Joey Lauren Adams and singer/songwriter Paul Overstreet will share emcee duties.
  • The Governor and First Lady will host a reception prior to the event. There the participating entertainers will receive the Peavey Award, which honors the state's Grammy winners and nominees for "furthering Mississippi's musical heritage."
